![]() ![]() The PRRI can sound similar at low volume clean tones - but again, the feel is totally different - the PRRI has a bouncy/spongy attack to it and doesn't feel anything like a Pathfinder. Going from memory, the AC15 had a fast attack but wasn't as fast and wasn't as warm and rich - it was more chimey and cutting. ![]() To me the Pathfinder's attack is immediate and the tone, like the you said, very warm and rich - I think that's the magic of this amp - super fast attack with incredible warmth. More importantly, neither had the same feel. Though the AC15 was closer, neither really duplicated the tones of the Pathfinder. I've previously owned an AC15 and a PRRI. but I LOVE it! It's just a fun, great sounding little amp. I have one of the first ones and it doesn't have reverb - and the tremolo stopped working over a decade ago. I'm a VERY long time Pathfinder 15 owner/player. Played the ac15hw1, ac4hw1, and probably more than I can recall. Note: I have owned the ac15cc1, ac15c1, ac15tbx, ValveTech Hayseed15 (ef86). There seems to be a consensus (myself included) that the gain control is, well pretty useless as the distortion is less than. #VOX PATHFINDER MODS MODS#I am just wondering if there is an amp out there that most resembles the Pathfinder tonally. SnorkelMonkey said: Someone recently was inquiring about mods for the Vox Pathfinder 15/15r amps and I had a look see at what could be done to improve the amp a bit. This post is not one of those "hey my solid state amp is as good as a boo-tek tube amp" threads. But just love the low volume breakup, chime to grind (with a pedal). #VOX PATHFINDER MODS MOD#the basic mod is a better speaker, the bulldog is ok but there are some really good jensen models available the will vastly improve the amps sound. I have played it into bigger cabs loaded with GB's, Blues, and Golds. the pathfinder 15R is one the finest small amps on the market today. I saw a post ages ago that stated he thought of it as a Princeton Reverb with chimey mids. What tube amp does the Pathfinder most sound like? I have owned lots of Voxes and clones, but feel this is warmer, richer in a way. My question here is a somewhat serious one. Seriously, I have owned amps costing 1500 plus and time and time again I sneak away to play the ol' Pathy. It's like my alone time in the basement safe place. I have no mods other than it is loaded with an 8" alnico Blue Pup. Ya, I know, it's a practice amp that I picked up for less than 100 bucks years and years ago.but I dig it after all these years. ![]()
